“The month of Ramadan is that in which was revealed the Quran; a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, a number of other days. Allah desires for you ease; He desires not hardship for you; and that you should complete the period, and that you should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that perhaps you may be thankful.” Surah 2:185

Fasting is first, and foremost, for Allah (SWT).

The following dua can be said while breaking fast at Maghrib:
”Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa alayka tawakkaltu wa ala rizq-ika-aftartu”
”O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance.”

Ramadan is broken down into three, 10-day increments:

  1. First ten days: Mercy

  2. Second ten days: Forgiveness

  3. Third ten days: Freedom from the hellfire

Muslims should be encouraged to increase their charity, spend time with their families, and increase their rememberance of Allah (SWT).
